This is a very unusual and striking Classic Russian style chess set, in boxwood, cleverly inlaid with sheesham & ebonywood, finished in a high gloss lacquer.
These pieces are double-weighted and have leather padded bases. The style, although contemporary Staunton in the main, clearly draws heavily from Eastern European culture and influences.
